Exclusive video of John Jay on creativity, W+K

I think this is key to finding the perfect job - a job that destroys roles, preconceptions and job expectations. I for one, have found great joy in writing. Writing that only occurred as a result of early comps - that the actual content didn’t exist yet, so I came up with witty content as a filler.

If you can, you need to get out of your confort zone. This is not only hard - since you usually need to break not just one, but two barriers in order to take that step. One: this is always a personal anxiety or frustration or something else. It’s different for all of us, but you need, on a personal level, have that drive, that inner-interest to grasp another medium, another direction than the usual norm that you have taken before with other projects. This is always a risk. And that is the core of the problem, you might not be in a position to randomly offer up risks, hell, who is in that position? Sign me up. But, you need to try to figure a way to push those boundaries with your director, company or client, step by step.

Another boundary is just that, - your container. Your employer, your director, your client - anything that may be out of your normal power to dictate the direction. You need, first to somehow visually or verbally tell your container that you are interested in expanding (destroying) your defined role. You want to explore this, that or whatever - and you can do it. Letting your container simply be aware that you are personally driven to do more is step one.

Now, lets get walking.
